This is a neighborhood that I lived in for 13 years. After 5 years of being away from the Market I have returned and am living back in my previous building at King George Square. I love The St Lawrence Market neighborhood as is offers a small town feel in the heart of the city.
The St Lawrence market neighborhood is located in downtown Toronto. This neighborhood is known for its spectacular architectural style along with the Exciting St Lawrence Market. Itself.
In the early 1800’s this are was creating by an enormous landfill project. Originally the area was marked to serve as a grand esplanade and public promenade along the waterfront. The city ended up turning it over to the railways, which attracted industries to area. Until the late 1940’s the historical heart of Old York was a vital industrial center. Around that time Toronto’s industrial base began leaving the city and as a result the St Lawrence market area was somewhat abandoned for about 30 years. In the 1970 ‘s Major David Crombie’s foresight rejuvenated the area and revitalized the community to where it is today.
Today the St Lawrence Market neighborhood as become a vibrate and pedestrian friendly neighborhood. The weekends are always lively with neighbors and visitors that shop at the market.
